OCT - Ocular Coherence Tomography

An OCT is a amazing advance in eye care technology.

With this very clever machine we can look at the back of your eye in detail.  We can also look at a 3D image through the layers of your eye.  This is not possible with a normal eye examination. It is similar to an ultrasound but uses light rather than sound waves.

An OCT scan is quick and painless and the machine will not touch your eyes.  The results will be analysed by our optometrist and explained to you at your appointment.  We will then have a detailed, comprehensive record with which to compare future scans.  The optometrist will use this record to look for any early changes or indications of issues should any arise in the future

Early detection can mean early treatment for eye condition such as wet & dry age related macula degeneration (ARMD), glaucoma, retinal detachment and diabetic retinopathy.

Please see our video for a demonstration of the scan.
